Prerequisite Note: If you're new to wheel throwing, begin with our 4-week beginner sessions. While advanced and intermediate students are encouraged to join, please note that the demonstrations will primarily focus on fundamental techniques, providing a solid foundation for your artistic journey.

Each session has a duration of 3 hours, for 8 weeks on Saturday

Sessions Overview:

Week 1: Foundations of Throwing

  • Introduction to building a set: Teapots, Bowls, and Coffee Mugs

  • Basics of off-the-hump throwing technique

Week 2: Precision in Trimming

  • Utilizing a chuck for effective trimming

  • Practical sessions focusing on trimming skills

Week 3: Centering Mastery

  • Mastering the tap-to-center method

  • Throwing and centering practice

Week 4: Height and Speed Techniques

  • Techniques for throwing faster and taller

  • Hands-on exercises to improve speed and height

Week 5: Exploring Decorative Techniques

  • Introduction to decorative techniques: carving and sgraffito

  • Application of carving on thrown pieces

Week 6: Conceptual Conversations in Design

  • In-depth discussions on conceptual design

  • Integrating design concepts into pottery pieces

Week 7: Advanced Decorative Techniques

  • Further exploration of carving and sgraffito

  • Hands-on application of sgraffito on thrown forms

Week 8: Final Projects and Review

  • Building a cohesive set incorporating all learned techniques

  • Review of the entire eight-week session

  • Individual feedback and discussion on final projects
